Operator onboarding — Pittsburgh

Scope

Day-one operator onboarding for the Pittsburgh site. Slack, scheduling, payment (RemoFirst), and on-shift expectations.

Purpose

Provide new operators a single landing page that covers: how they join the team comms, how shifts get scheduled, how they get paid, and what’s expected during shifts. [SOURCE: Operator Onboarding Guide Pittsburgh, Drive id 1dlHKi7qGGxCTxw9XQyY0fSUaJjJm8MGBQKKy_LU_lOY]

Required inputs / tools

Day-one checklist

1. Joining Slack

  • Accept the Slack workspace invite.
  • Enable notifications.
  • Check #general (regular updates).
  • Check #scheduling-operators (weekly schedule).
  • Join #fill-swap-shifts (group chat for shift swaps). [SOURCE: Onboarding Guide §"Joining Slack" + §"Slack Use"]

2. Getting on the schedule

  • Add your name to a line in the Operator Availability spreadsheet.
  • Input your weekly availability.
  • Update availability weekly. Schedule is typically created Thursdays of the week prior; updates by Wednesday will be reflected in the following week’s schedule.
  • If anything about the spreadsheet is unclear → contact Cooper. [SOURCE: Onboarding Guide §"Getting on the Schedule"]

3. RemoFirst (Employer of Record)

  • Watch for the RemoFirst sign-up email after joining.
  • Sign your offer letter.
  • Complete I-9 verification.
  • Access the Remo platform.
  • Note the timesheet due dates (visible in Remo Portal).

Signing your offer letter, completing your I-9 verification steps, and accessing the Remo platform are all necessary to be fully onboarded and get paid. [SOURCE: Onboarding Guide §"RemoFirst and Getting Paid"]

4. Timesheets

  • Track hours worked each day.
  • Submit timesheet every 2 weeks, on or before the Sunday they are due.
  • RemoFirst support team is available for any platform issues.
  • Cooper handles Skild-side clarification on schedules / expectations / timesheets.

On-shift expectations

Performance metrics

  • Operator performance is measured by demos produced per hour of shift time.
  • New operators are given grace to learn and improve.
  • Subpar performance → notice to improve.
  • Consistent subpar performance → further action (off-boarding possible). [SOURCE: Onboarding Guide §"Norms/Standards/Expectations"]

Focus & decorum

  • You can bring things to make shifts comfortable, but operators are trusted to stay focused.
  • Operators more occupied with devices than work will be issued a warning.
  • Office space contains other employees doing focused work — respect those who need focus by not being overly loud or disruptive.

Robot care

Our robots are not toys. They are complex, fragile, and require care and delicacy. Consciousness of this goes a long way in preventing misuse and damage. If you are ever uncertain of the operational safety confines of a robot, please ask a shift lead to clarify. [SOURCE: Onboarding Guide §"Short List of Other Important Points"]

Following instructions

  • Task instructions and performance expectations are not recommendations.
  • Continued failure to follow instructions or meet expectations is not acceptable.

Breaks

  • 30-minute break each shift is provided.
  • Small breaks during work are allowed.
  • Operators are expected to be actively collecting data while on shift.
  • Overly long and frequent breaks are apparent in the data review.

Attendance

  • Lateness, absences without notice, and egregious shift cancellations are documented.
  • Cannot make a shift? First point of contact: #fill-swap-shifts (Slack). Notice of > 2 days expected (emergencies excepted).

Professional environment

  • Use professional language.
  • Wear appropriate attire.
  • Respect coworkers and the work space.

Confidentiality — non-negotiable

Skild is a startup working on sensitive technology. Confidentiality is paramount. Do not share, post, or discuss any of the work you do or see or interact with at Skild. This includes making your employment at Skild public on platforms such as LinkedIn. Do not take photos or videos of our machines, software, employees, or anything inside of the office. Agreement to this is included in the Contractor Agreement you have signed.

We hold confidentiality to the highest degree of importance here. Failure to adhere to these rules will result in immediate off-boarding. [SOURCE: Onboarding Guide — closing confidentiality clause; ALL CAPS in source]

If you want to include your experience at Skild on a resume or similar, consult Cooper first. [SOURCE: Onboarding Guide]

Quality checks

  • Slack notifications enabled; all three channels joined.
  • Availability submitted in the spreadsheet, updated weekly.
  • RemoFirst onboarding complete (offer letter signed, I-9, platform access).
  • First timesheet submitted on time.
  • Contractor Agreement signed (covers confidentiality).
  • Shift lead introduction completed on first day.

Escalation

  • Spreadsheet / scheduling questions → Cooper directly.
  • RemoFirst / payment → RemoFirst support, then Cooper.
  • Off-boarding concern (you’ve received a warning): read the warning, ask Cooper for clarification, address the underlying issue.
  • Confidentiality breach → immediate off-boarding per policy. Do not test this.
